Proposal 1: Anti-Cyberbullying
Activity Name:
Anti-Cyberbullying
Activity Objective:
Understand what is cyberbullying; Understand skills for preventing cyberbullying
Activity Introduction:
This activity will help students preliminary understand cyberbullying and online safety by some activities and teaching. First, some activities will make students realize the pain of being bullied and the great influences the Internet. During lectures, we will make students understand what is cyberbullying and the severe outcome of it by simulation of real cases. After that, students will summarize how to combat cyberbullying through group discussion, under teachers’ guidance.
Activity Procedure:
1) Virtual Reality: Children with Autism (Mainly let students perceive the feeling of isolation and desolation).
2) Game: Play a game called “we become what we behold” to make students realize the great impact of the Internet.
3) Role play: students will be divided into several groups and play various roles under different settings of cyberbullying (victim, perpetrator, friend of victim, bystander) to fully understand the feelings of various roles that are involved in the event.
4) Group discussion: Students will discuss in a group about how to deal with cyberbullying according to their experiences in role play and write down solutions on a given white board.
Advantages of the activity:
We have various activities in many aspects. Students may have high degree of participation. Experiential learning can help students remember the skills they would learn.
Possible difficulty:
If students are not motivated, the activity may be difficult to be conducted.
Proposal 2: Cyberbullying is so terrible? No
Activity Name:
Cyberbullying is so terrible? No
Activity Objectives:
Understand differences between cyberbullying and bullying. Understand how to deal with cyberbullying.
Activity Introduction:
Cyberbullying is different with other common bullying, which would appear without any signals and is uncontrollable. Therefore, we hope students can understand the terror and impact of cyberbullying and how to deal with it, rather than focusing on teaching students avoiding “Public Trials”. We expect that students could understand the differences between cyberbullying and bullying as well as be able to deal with cyberbullying after this workshop.
Activity Procedure:
1) First, we will have a brief introduction about bullying and cyberbullying for 20 minutes to help students have basic knowledge about them.
2) Then, we will make students consolidate the knowledge and experience the terror of cyberbullying through games for about 40 minutes (maybe games about the impact of the Internet or a role play).
3) A Q&A game for about 20 minutes with reward.
4) The leader will have final summary and suggestions.
Advantages of the activity:
We will use various and interesting methods to convey knowledge, which could help students of primary school to learn through games. We can not only avoid boring lectures that resulted by passively listening for a long time, but also guiding students to think independently.
Possible difficulty:
The activity involves group division and mobility, which may cost more time to maintain order.
